Why is it Called

Holt River Ranch?

Is there a Holt River? No, it’s the Brazos River that borders Holt River Ranch. Part of the ranch was purchased by Glenn’s great-great grandfather, James Thomas “Tank” Holt, in 1906. For many years it was simply referred to by family and locals as the “River Ranch.”

Franklin Holt Rogers, Glenn’s son, was born in 1986 and was known to friends and family as Holt. He died tragically in a bicycle/automobile accident in 1993.

Holt River Ranch is named in loving memory of Holt Rogers.

A cross memorial is situated on the cliff overlooking the Brazos River. It is readily visible to boaters as they enter Post Oak Bend from Harris Bend, below the Highway 4 bridge.

The verse on the cross is from 2 Samuel, spoken by King David upon the death of his son.
